Okay, so, I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz lately about this new Omega Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer watch. It’s, like, all over my social media feeds, and some watch collector friends have been talking about it non-stop. Apparently, it’s a collaboration with the European Space Agency, which immediately caught my attention since I’m a big fan of everything related to space. I mean they already have the Moon so why not Mars right?
So, I started to do some digging. It seemed pretty cool—it can track time on Mars. Dead reckoning, timing, and direction, these are, like, the basic things of exploration, you know? That really got me thinking. I started reading articles, checking out forums, all that stuff. I saw some people saying they got offers from their OB for the Marstimer, which made me even more curious.
Then, I decided to go to the Omega website. I saw all these pictures and specs. This is a big step for them I guess, going from the Moonwatch to something even more advanced. The website talked about how it’s got features from the older X-33 Skywalker, which had ideas from some astronaut named Jean-Francois Clervoy, plus new stuff too. I guess that’s cool, adding new features is always good for these kinds of watches.
After spending a few days reading about it, I finally took the plunge and went to my local Omega boutique. They had one on display, and let me tell you, it looked even better in person. The sales guy was super enthusiastic, showing me all the functions and how it works. He talked about the materials, the design, and how it’s tested for space missions.
Decide to buy it
I played around with the watch for a good while, trying out the different modes and getting a feel for the buttons. It’s a bit big, but it felt pretty good on my wrist, not too heavy. I compared it with the classic Moonwatch they had there, which is, like, a hand-wound chronograph. I think at that time, the Marstimer looked way cooler.
The price was a bit steep, but I’ve been saving up for a new watch for a while, so I thought, why not? I went ahead and bought it. They even gave me a nice box and some booklets about the watch and its features. It felt good to finally have it after all that researching and thinking. I felt like I had become a part of the Mars Mission team or something like that.
Checking for authenticity
After getting home, I went online again to check some tips on how to make sure it’s genuine. I know there are a lot of fakes out there, so I wanted to be extra careful. I found some forum posts and articles talking about what to look for. Things like the quality of the materials, the layout of the dial, serial numbers, and the overall finishing of the watch. I checked all of that on my new Marstimer, and thankfully, everything seemed legit.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’ve been wearing the Marstimer almost every day. It’s definitely a conversation starter, and I’ve had a lot of fun showing it off to my friends and explaining all its cool features.
So yeah, that’s my experience with the Omega X-33 Marstimer so far. It was a bit of an impulse buy, but I don’t regret it one bit. It’s a really unique watch, and I feel like it’s a good investment, especially with all the history and technology behind it. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll be the first watch on Mars someday! Who knows, right?
