So, the other day I was scrolling through the interwebs, and I saw this PRADA Buckle Bag, the one from their official store. And I thought, “Hey, I could probably make that.” So that’s what I did. I’m not a professional or anything, but I do enjoy a good DIY project, and this seemed like a fun challenge.
First, I gathered my materials. I hit up the local craft store and grabbed some leather, some heavy-duty thread, a buckle that looked kinda like the PRADA one, and some other bits and bobs. It wasn’t exactly the same quality as the real deal, obviously, but it was good enough for this project.
Then came the cutting. I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous. I don’t have one of those fancy laser cutters or anything, so I was using a good old-fashioned utility knife and a ruler. I sketched out a rough pattern based on the pictures I saw online, and slowly, carefully, I cut the leather into the shapes I needed. My hands were a bit shaky at first but I took some deep breaths and focused.
- Cut main body piece
- Cut side panels
- Cut strap pieces
- Cut buckle attachment
Next up was the stitching. This is where things got real. I don’t own a sewing machine, so I was doing everything by hand. Let me tell you, hand-stitching leather is no joke. My fingers were definitely feeling it after a while. But I persevered, pushing the needle through the thick material, creating neat little stitches along the edges of each piece. I focused on keeping the stitches tight and even.
Once the main body of the bag was stitched together, I added the side panels. This was a bit tricky, trying to line everything up perfectly, but I managed to get it done. Then came the strap. I made it adjustable, just like the original, using some extra buckles I had. It took me three attempts to get the strap length the way I wanted it.
The Buckle!
Finally, the buckle. This was the centerpiece, the part that really made it look like the PRADA bag. I carefully attached it to the front flap, making sure it was secure and centered. And there it was, my very own, handmade “PRADA” Buckle Bag.
It’s definitely not perfect. There are a few wonky stitches here and there, and the leather isn’t as smooth as the real thing. But you know what? I’m pretty damn proud of it. I made it with my own two hands, and that’s something special. Plus, I saved myself a ton of money. It’s not about having the fanciest things, it’s about the joy of creating. And honestly, it looks pretty darn good!
