Okay, so, let me tell you about this little project I got into. I’ve always been a fan of those fancy Rolex watches, especially the GMT-Master II with the Pepsi bezel. You know, the one with the red and blue? Looks super cool. But, man, those things are expensive! So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? A high-imitation, you could say. It is not a genuine one.
First, I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures online, trying to get every little detail in my head. The way the colors blend, the shape of the hands, the numbers on the bezel, everything. Then I started looking for the parts. The case, the dial, the movement, hands, bezel, and so on. I didn’t buy the most expensive parts, because then it will be better to buy an authentic one. It was a real treasure hunt, I swear, but it was kind of fun, too.
One thing I learned from searching online is about the order of the hands. On a real Rolex GMT-Master II, it goes hour, then GMT, then minute. That’s important if you want it to look legit. I made sure to find parts that fit together in that order, the hour hand, the GMT hand, and then the minute hand.
The Process
- Gathering Parts: I hit up a bunch of online stores, forums, and even some physical shops to find all the bits and pieces.
- Assembly Time: Putting it all together was the tricky part. I had to be super careful, using tiny tools and a magnifying glass. I messed up a few times, ngl, but eventually, I got it.
- Setting the Hands: This was especially fiddly. Like I said, the order is crucial. I had to use tweezers and a steady hand to get them just right.
- Fine Tuning: After I got the main assembly done, I spent some time adjusting things, making sure the hands moved smoothly, and the bezel clicked into place properly.
Finally, after hours of work, there it was. My very own “Pepsi” GMT-Master II. It’s not perfect, of course. A real watchmaker would probably spot the flaws in a second, but it was not a real one. But you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It looks good on my wrist, and it tells the time. And the best part? I made it myself. It was a fun journey, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe I’ll try another model next, who knows?
