Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5719/10 for a while now. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s a freaking masterpiece! But those things are insanely expensive. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and try to remake one myself. It was a tough decision, but it turned out to be a correct one.
First, I started researching. I spent hours looking at pictures and reading about the watch online. I had no idea how to start, but some websites like luxurytimenyc and chrono24 provided useful information about the 5719/10, especially the reference 5719/1G-001. This gave me a good starting point. I needed to know everything about its dimensions, materials, and movement. The real one is made of white gold and covered in diamonds, which is way out of my budget. I figured I’d have to use stainless steel instead and maybe some cubic zirconia to mimic the diamonds.
Then, I started gathering materials. I ordered a stainless steel watch case online that had a similar shape to the Nautilus. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough. I found a cheap quartz movement that would fit inside. It’s not automatic like the real Patek, but it keeps time, and that’s what matters, right?
Next came the tricky part: the dial. I tried printing out a picture of the Nautilus dial, but it looked terrible. So, I ended up painting it myself. I used a fine brush and some acrylic paint. It took forever, but I think it turned out okay. Not exactly like the original, but you can tell what I was going for.
Now, for the “diamonds”. I bought a bunch of tiny cubic zirconia stones and some strong glue. This was the most tedious part of the whole project. I spent days gluing each stone onto the case and bracelet. My fingers were cramping, and I almost went cross-eyed, but I finally finished it.
Finally, I put everything together. I carefully placed the movement inside the case, attached the dial, and added the hands. Then, I connected the bracelet to the case. It was a nerve-wracking moment, but when I was done, I had something that actually looked like a watch! And I think it is a good watch!
Here is my step by step process:
- Research: Looked up everything about the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5719/10.
- Material Gathering: Ordered a stainless steel case and a quartz movement.
- Dial Making: Hand-painted the dial because printing didn’t work.
- Diamond Mimicry: Glued cubic zirconia onto the case and bracelet.
- Assembly: Put the movement, dial, hands, and bracelet together.
It’s definitely not a real Patek Philippe, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to afford the real thing. But until then, my homemade Nautilus will do just fine. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start a new trend – homemade luxury watches! Just kidding, but you never know. It really feels good to make a luxury watch on your own!
