So, I got this idea to try and make a high imitation of the Rolex GMT-Master II Batman, the original order. You know, the one that’s super popular? I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I mean, who wouldn’t want a watch like that?
I started by doing some digging online, you know, just browsing around to see what’s up with this watch. Found out that the Rolex 116710BLNR, that’s the Batman, first came out in 2013. It was a big deal. Then I saw some folks talking about how the Clean factory makes the best GMTs, so that got me thinking.
Getting My Hands Dirty
First thing I did was look for the parts. I wanted this thing to look legit, so I spent hours searching for the right bezel, the blue and black one. I found a place that sells these ceramic bezels, they looked pretty good. I also needed a sapphire crystal. I ordered them, fingers crossed they would be decent.
While I was waiting for the parts to arrive, I did more research on what makes a good imitation. It is not easy to imitate, lots of people talking about quality and affordability, and someone mentioned Timex Allied Three GMT as a good alternative. But I was set on making it as close to the Rolex as possible.
Putting It All Together
When the parts finally came, I got to work. I carefully assembled everything, trying my best to get each detail right. The bezel was a bit tricky to put on, but I managed. It looked pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.
- Sourcing the parts: Spent ages finding a good blue/black ceramic bezel and a sapphire crystal.
- Research: Learned about the history of the Rolex Batman and what makes a good imitation.
- Assembly: Put the watch together, which was a bit of a challenge but totally worth it.
After hours of work, I finally finished it. The watch looked really good. I compared it to pictures of the real Rolex Batman, and man, it was close. I mean, sure, it’s not the real deal, but for something I put together myself, it’s pretty impressive.
This whole project was a lot of fun. It was cool to learn about watches and see if I could make something that looks like a luxury item. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s a lot of work, but seeing the finished product is super satisfying.
I wanted to share this whole experience with you all because, why not? It’s a cool project, and maybe it’ll inspire some of you to try something similar. Just remember, it’s all about the fun of making something, and maybe showing off a little bit, too.
