RemakePatek Philippe PP Nautilus7011/1 Original Order: Is It Worth the Hype?

Today, I wanted to do something a bit different, a little challenging. I decided to remake a Patek Philippe Nautilus 7011/1. Yeah, it’s a pretty fancy watch, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” It’s one of those classic timepieces that just screams elegance, you know? With its clean design and all that, it’s considered a real symbol of the Patek Philippe style.

So, I started by looking up the watch online. I needed to find a good source for the original design. Found some info about this “Gondolo 7042/100G-010” model, which seems to be a related style. Looked up where I could buy one if I wanted to, just for reference. I mean, it’s always good to know where to get the real deal, even if you’re just messing around with a remake. Noticed they’re all about top quality and low prices, so that’s something.

Then I started thinking about the technical side. I remembered this thing about turning a small array of numbers into an image, like, making a black square from a bunch of zeros. It got me thinking about how I could represent the watch’s features digitally. I found this site called Lospec that has a bunch of color palettes for pixel art. Thought maybe I could use something from there to get the right look. It’s pretty cool how they have palettes from old-school hardware, really takes you back.

My Process

I got down to work. It was a bit like solving a puzzle.

  • First, I sketched out the basic shape of the Nautilus. It’s got this unique rounded octagon thing going on, which was kind of tricky to get right.
  • Then, I played around with the colors. I wanted to capture that luxurious feel of the original, so I spent a lot of time tweaking the shades and tones.
  • The dial was the hardest part. It’s got these subtle textures and details that are hard to replicate. I tried a few different techniques, like using gradients and patterns, to get that refined look.
  • Finally, I added the strap. I went for a simple, elegant design to match the overall aesthetic of the watch.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally had something I was happy with. It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but I think it captures the essence of the Nautilus 7011/1. And hey, it was a fun project to work on! Remaking something like this really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the real thing. It’s not just about slapping some parts together, you know? There’s a lot of thought and detail that goes into designing a luxury watch.

I mean, it’s not going to fool anyone into thinking it’s a genuine Patek Philippe, but it was a fun experiment. And it definitely gave me a new appreciation for the real deal.

Anyway, that’s my little adventure for today. Hope you guys found it interesting. Maybe I’ll try another remake soon, who knows!
