Alright, so I got this idea to remake a Patek Philippe Nautilus 7010. I mean, those things are crazy expensive, right? But I thought, why not try to make one myself? Sounded like a fun project.
First, I started looking at a bunch of pictures of the real deal. I noticed these watches have some numbers on them. Like, there’s this “750” that I think means it’s made of gold. Real gold! Not sure if I can get my hands on that, but I figured I could find something similar.
Then, I dug around a bit more and found out that you gotta check the back of these watches. Apparently, there’s more writing and numbers there. Model number, they call it. I made a note of that, gonna need to figure out what those numbers mean for the 7010.
Now, I’ve seen some remakes already out there. There’s this one, the PP Calatrava 5227G-010, and it actually looks pretty good. But I wanted to go for the Nautilus 7010, you know? It’s a bit different, a bit more, I don’t know, sporty?
- I started gathering materials. Not real gold, of course, but some decent metal that looks the part.
- I found some watch movements online. Not sure if they’re the same as the real Patek Philippe, but they tick, so that’s a start.
- Then came the tricky part – the dial. I tried to copy the design of the Nautilus 7010 as best as I could. Lots of tiny details, let me tell you.
Putting it all together was a real pain. Tiny screws, delicate parts, you name it. I messed up a few times, had to redo some parts, but I kept at it. It was like a puzzle, a really complicated, expensive-looking puzzle.
The End Result
After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished it. It’s not perfect, of course. It doesn’t have the same weight, the same feel as a real Patek Philippe. But hey, it looks like a Nautilus 7010, at least from a distance. And it tells the time! I wore it around the house, felt kinda fancy, even though I knew it wasn’t the real deal.
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun challenge, but also a lot of work. If you’re thinking about remaking a Patek Philippe, be prepared to spend some time and effort. And don’t expect to fool any experts! But it’s a cool project, and you get to learn a lot about watches along the way.
