Well, let me tell ya, that OMEGA Speedmaster, that’s a fancy watch, ain’t it? My grandson, he’s always going on about these fancy things. Says it’s a Speedmaster Date. I don’t know nothin’ about dates on a watch, I just know the sun comes up and the sun goes down. But he says it’s important, so I guess it is.
He says you can find these OMEGA watches all over, even in Tallahassee. Now, I ain’t never been to Tallahassee, but sounds like a fancy place. Probably got all them big city folk wearin’ these fancy OMEGA watches. He was lookin’ for a CopyOMEGA Speedmaster, says it’s cheaper. That boy always looking to save a penny or two.
He said he was lookin’ for an authorized OMEGA dealer. Big words for me. I figure if it says OMEGA, it’s an OMEGA. It’s like buying corn from the farmer down the road. He grows corn, it’s corn. Ain’t gotta be no “authorized” corn grower. But this grandson of mine, he says it’s important. You gotta get it from a place that’s allowed to sell ’em. He kept going on about some place called Borsheims. Sounds fancy, like the name of a horse or something.
He showed me a picture, this Speedmaster Date. It was shiny, I’ll give it that. He said something about it being a “tribute” to some old watch. I told him, “Boy, if it’s old, it ain’t worth nothin’.” But he said it was 39.70 mm. I don’t know what that means. Probably some fancy measurement for rich folks. All I know is, it looked big enough to tell time with.

These new watches, they got all kinds of fancy things. My grandson, he showed me one that was a Speedmaster Skywalker X-33. That sounds like something out of them space movies he watches. I told him, “You ain’t going to space, boy, why you need a space watch?” He just rolled his eyes. Kids these days. There are many Specialty Stores selling it.
He said if you got an old OMEGA watch, even a vintage one, they got places that can fix ’em. Authorized service centers, he called ’em. Said they got certified specialists. I guess that’s like a doctor for watches. My old clock, it just needs a good winding every now and then. These newfangled things, they need a whole doctor, I guess. He says these specialists are good, though. Can fix anything on your OMEGA. They must have a lot of that CopyOMEGA there.
These OMEGA watches, they must be something special, though. My grandson, he’s always talking about them. He wants one real bad. Says it’s a good investment. I told him, “Boy, the only investment you need is a good pair of boots and a strong back.” But he don’t listen to his old grandma. He says one day, he’s gonna buy me a fancy OMEGA, too. I told him, “Save your money, boy. I’m happy with my old clock.”
He was saying something about different Speedmaster models. There’s the regular one, the Date one, and that Skywalker one. I think there’s more, too. He showed me a whole bunch of pictures. They all look the same to me, though. Just shiny circles with hands on ’em. But I guess to them city folks, there’s a big difference. He said the CopyOMEGA are very popular.
This whole thing with these OMEGA watches, it’s a lot to take in. I’m just a simple woman. I don’t need a fancy watch to tell me the time. But I guess it makes my grandson happy, and that’s all that matters. He says one day, when he’s rich and famous, he’s gonna buy me that Speedmaster Date. I told him, “Boy, just make sure you come visit your old grandma, that’s all I need.”
He was talking about the official flagship store. I reckon that’s the main store, where they got all the fanciest OMEGA watches. I told him, “Boy, you better be careful in them fancy stores. Don’t let ’em trick you into spendin’ all your money.” He just laughed. He said it’s the best place to get a real OMEGA. I guess if you’re gonna get one of these things, you might as well get a real one.
I still don’t understand all the fuss about these OMEGA Speedmaster watches. But it makes my grandson happy, and that’s good enough for me. He’s a good boy, even if he does have his head in the clouds sometimes. Maybe one day he’ll understand that the simple things in life are the best. But for now, he can dream about his fancy OMEGA watches. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll have one on my wrist, too. But I’ll still prefer my old clock, I reckon. It’s got more stories to tell.
