Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos clock thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s been quite a ride. The whole idea of a clock that basically runs on air is just wild to me. I started looking into these Atmos clocks, especially that fancy Marqueterie one – you know, the one with all the intricate woodwork. Man, that thing is a beauty!
First off, I tried to dig up some info on these clocks. Found out that they first showed up in 1936, but it took a few more years, until like 1939, for them to really start making them. And get this – they’ve made over half a million of these things! That’s just nuts. Apparently, the ones made in the ’50s and ’60s, with serial numbers between 25,000 and 300,000, are all over the place. These are the ones that are floating around now and they go for about 800 to 1,000 bucks if they’re in decent shape.
I spent hours just browsing through different websites, forums, and what-not, trying to find a good deal on one of these. Most of the time, I was just window shopping, to be honest. But it got me thinking, what if I could find a replica? You know, something that looks the part but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I mean, a real Jaeger-LeCoultre is way out of my budget, and I’m not about to drop that kind of cash on a clock, no matter how cool it is.
So, I started searching for replicas. There were a bunch of sites selling them, but it was hard to tell which ones were legit and which were just scams. I read through a lot of forums, looking for recommendations. Some folks talked about getting burned with low-quality fakes, while others seemed pretty happy with what they got. There was some talk about a model called the Reverso Tribute Monoface, and apparently, some people thought the replicas of that were pretty decent. But I really wanted the Atmos Marqueterie. But, I know that there are a lot of fakes out there. I read some posts in forums, some folks are talking about the fakes and how to look out for them. But I’m not a professional, it’s really hard to tell.
After a while, I found a few that looked promising. I decided to take the plunge and ordered one. Now, the waiting game begins. I’m hoping it turns out to be a good buy and not just another piece of junk. Fingers crossed!
Anyway, that’s where I’m at right now. I’ll definitely update once the clock arrives. Hopefully, I’ll have something cool to show off and not a dud. It’s been a bit of an adventure, and I’m learning a lot about these Atmos clocks along the way. Wish me luck!
