Alright, let’s talk about the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, specifically the one with the Sapphire crystal and the Caliber 3861 movement. I’ve been messing around with this watch for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s a pretty sweet piece of machinery.

First off, I started by just staring at the dial. I mean, I spent a good chunk of time just looking at the fonts, the logo, and all those little markings. They’re sharp, just like they’re supposed to be on a real Speedy. Then I compared it to tons of pictures of real Speedmasters online, just to make sure I knew what I was looking at. You gotta train your eye, you know?

Next, I flipped it over and checked out the back. There’s this laser etching thing on the case back, which is apparently some kind of anti-counterfeiting measure. Looked legit to me, but what do I know? I’m no expert, just a guy who likes watches.

Let’s see it’s crystal.

  • It is Sapphire. The Sapphire crystal, I learned, is made of some fancy crystalline aluminum oxide stuff. That makes it tougher than the Hesalite, which I guess is another type of crystal. This Sapphire is supposed to be super durable, which is great because I’m clumsy and tend to bang my watches around. Plus, it’s supposed to be clearer, giving you a better view of the dial. I have to say, the dial is a nice one to look at, it’s black with these printed indices, and I just dig the whole proportion and color. It’s simple but cool.

About the movement.

  • The Caliber 3861. Now, this is where things get interesting. This movement is a “Master Chronometer,” which I guess is a big deal. It’s supposed to be accurate to within 0 to +5 seconds a day, which is insane. It can also handle magnetic fields and shocks better than the older 1861 movement. And get this – it has a longer power reserve, like two extra hours. That’s a win in my book.

  • I wore the watch around for a few days, just to get a feel for it. It’s a good size, 42mm, and it has these cool, twisted lugs. I also heard that this movement was first used in some special gold Speedmaster for the Apollo 11 anniversary. Fancy!

From what I’ve read, these Speedmasters, especially the older ones and limited editions, tend to hold their value pretty well. But honestly, I’m not thinking about selling this one anytime soon. I’m just enjoying wearing it and learning more about it.

So, that’s my little adventure with the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Sapphire with the Caliber 3861. It’s a classic style with some modern upgrades, and I’m digging it. If you’re into watches, especially Speedmasters, it’s definitely one to check out. I must say that this new second-generation “First Omega in Space” (FOiS) has so much positive Speedmaster energy in the air.
