Okay, here is my sharing post about remaking the PRADA Soft Padded Re-Nylon Mini-Bag:
So, I saw this PRADA Soft Padded Re-Nylon Mini-Bag online, and I thought, “Hey, I can totally make that!” It’s basically a black nylon bag with this cool puffy, quilted look. I’m a sucker for anything that looks like it’s been puffed up, you know? And I know Prada is using this special “Re-Nylon” thing, which is made from recycled ocean plastics. That’s awesome, and I’m all for saving the planet and all, but I wanted to make it with my own hands first!
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some black nylon fabric. Not the fancy Re-Nylon, just regular nylon from the fabric store, ’cause I didn’t want to break the bank just yet. Then I grabbed some batting, the stuff you use to make quilts, to give it that padded effect. I think the original one has this triangular quilting pattern, which is like their logo or something, so I sketched that out on paper to use as a guide. I don’t need that complicated logo, just that puffy feeling.
I cut out the nylon based on the shape I wanted, you know, like a rectangle for the main body and some smaller pieces for the sides. Then I did the same with the batting. I layered them together – nylon, batting, nylon – and started stitching. I tried to follow my triangle sketch, but let me tell you, sewing straight lines is harder than it looks, especially when you’re trying to make a pattern! Mine came out a bit wonky, but hey, it adds character, right? If you want to do this at home, be careful and slow.
Once the quilting was done, which took me way longer than I expected, I sewed the pieces together to form the bag. I added a zipper at the top, ’cause you gotta keep your stuff safe, and a simple black strap. I didn’t bother with any fancy hardware or anything, just kept it simple. It was a fun time, seeing it all come together.
- Started with gathering materials: black nylon fabric, batting, zipper, strap.
- Sketched out a triangle pattern based on the original Prada design.
- Cut fabric and batting, layered them, and started quilting.
- Sewed the quilted pieces together to form the bag shape.
- Added a zipper and a strap to complete the bag.
The final result? It’s definitely not a Prada, but it’s my Prada. It’s got that puffy, quilted vibe I was going for, and it’s surprisingly roomy. I’ve been using it to carry my phone, wallet, and keys, and it’s been holding up pretty well. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a fun project, but a lot more work than I thought it would be. If you’re into sewing and want a challenge, give it a shot! But if you want the real deal, you might just have to shell out the cash for the actual Prada bag. Just don’t tell them I sent you, haha!
