Okay, so, I gotta tell you about this whole thing with the OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.
It all started back when I heard about this watch coming out. I’m a bit of a space nerd, and the whole NASA-Snoopy connection just got me. I mean, Snoopy as NASA’s safety watchdog since the ’60s? Come on, that’s cool. Plus, this watch was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Silver Snoopy Award that OMEGA got from NASA in 1970. I knew I had to have it.
So, I started digging around. From what I could gather, this wasn’t the first Snoopy Speedmaster. There was one in 2015 for the 45th anniversary of Apollo 13, and this new one was for the 50th. Apparently, they only made 1970 of the 45th-anniversary ones, you know, like the year of the award, which is kind of a nice touch, and they are super hard to get at a decent price. I guess these Snoopy watches are a big deal for collectors, some kind of “investment-grade” thing, whatever that means.
Decided to check with the official store. They confirmed it was the real deal. Silver dial, blue accents on the sub-dials. Looked sharp. And this new one, get this, it’s not even a limited edition. They’re just making them as they go. But even so, I heard they were still hard to get your hands on.
The movement inside is this OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. I’m not a watch expert, but I read that it means it’s super precise and can handle magnetic fields or something. Sounds impressive, right?
The Chase
- First, I tried calling a few boutiques. No luck. Either they didn’t have it, or the waiting list was crazy long.
- Then, I spent hours online, looking at forums and stuff. People were talking about how they got theirs, sharing tips, and all that.
- Finally, I decided to go to the OMEGA boutique in person. I figured, maybe if they see me, a real person who really wants the watch, they’d help me out.
I went to the store, and you know what? It worked! Well, kind of. The guy there was super nice, and he understood my obsession. He said they were getting them in batches, and it was pretty random. But he took my name and number and promised to call me when the next one arrived.
And guess what? A few weeks later, I got the call! I rushed to the store so fast, I think I broke a few traffic laws. But hey, I got the watch! Paid the retail price, just like a regular person. I am very happy with the watch, it is so beautiful!
So yeah, that’s my story. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to snag this OMEGA Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary watch. It’s a pretty sweet piece of history, and I’m stoked to have it in my little collection.
