Alright, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the transparent case back, for a while now. I finally pulled the trigger and got it from the official flagship store, and let me tell you, the whole process was quite an experience.
First off, I did a ton of research. I mean, this is a serious timepiece, and I wanted to make sure I was getting the real deal. I watched countless videos and read a bunch of articles. One article I found from the WatchTime Archives was pretty helpful. I’ve learned that back in April 1993 a special moment marked a milestone for the model. I also learned that the early Speedmasters used the Calibre 321 movement, but they switched to the Calibre 861 in 1968 or 1969, which is what they used in the actual Moonwatch. Also, it has two sub-dials instead of three!
After I felt like I knew enough, I headed straight to the OMEGA’s official store. I figure, if you’re gonna get something like this, you gotta go to the source, right? And it is 42mm and the bezel is under 40mm.
Walking into the store was a little intimidating, I won’t lie. But the staff were super friendly and really knew their stuff. They showed me the Moonwatch, and man, it’s even more impressive in person. That transparent case back is something else. You can see all the little gears and things moving around inside, it is so cool.
The Purchase
We talked about the different models, and I was particularly interested in the steel-Sedna gold one, but ultimately decided on the classic steel. I learned that the new 3861 movement is a big step up from the old 1861, which is good to know, but not a deal breaker for me. I know that it looks complicated, but after some practice I understood how the chronograph works.
I spent some time trying it on, walking around the store, getting a feel for it. It’s got a good weight to it, feels solid, but not too heavy.
Finally, I decided to go for it. The whole payment process was smooth, and they even gave me a nice little box and a cleaning cloth.
Living With the Moonwatch
Since getting the watch, I’ve been wearing it almost every day. It’s surprisingly comfortable for a watch of this size and weight. I love looking down and seeing that little piece of history on my wrist. Plus, the transparent case back is always a conversation starter. People are always asking about it.
- Winding it up: I wind it up every morning, just to make sure it stays accurate. I like the routine of it, kind of therapeutic in a way.
- Accuracy: So far, it’s been keeping time really well. I haven’t noticed any major deviations.
- Just looking at it: Honestly, sometimes I just catch myself staring at it, admiring the craftsmanship. It’s a beautiful watch, no doubt. I have not tried the sub-dials that much, but I will learn how to use them.
All in all, I’m super happy with my purchase. It’s definitely an investment, but I think it’s one that’s totally worth it. I look forward to learning how to use all the features and make a habit of winding it up every morning.
This is my experience so far with buying and living with the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch from the official flagship store. Hope this was helpful for anyone thinking about getting one! It’s a really cool watch, and I’m excited to keep wearing it and maybe even pass it down someday, I hope I can use it for a long time.
