Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the small one, for a while now. It’s such a classic, you know? And I just love the look of it. I started by really studying the bag. I looked at tons of pictures online, really getting a feel for its shape, size, and all the little details.
Then I got to work on the materials. This bag is made with Saffiano leather, which is this special kind of treated leather. I learned online that it’s not like full-grain leather which can develop a patina over time. I found some good quality Saffiano leather, and since I wanted to make it myself, I opted not to go for the super expensive stuff. Also, I choose a color similar to the original bag.
- Gathered all my tools – leather, thread, needles, the whole nine yards.
- Started cutting the leather, being super careful to get the dimensions right.
- Sewed the pieces together, bit by bit.
- Then, I carefully sew the leather pieces together. It was a bit tricky with the rolled top handles, but I managed to get them looking pretty good. I also added an adjustable handle wrap.
- The bag has two zip-fastening compartments, so I made sure to include those. They were a bit of a pain, but I got them in there.
The trickiest part was probably the enamel triangle logo. I wanted to get it as close to the original as possible. So I created a similar one. Also, I added an adjustable detachable shoulder strap, just like the real deal.
After a lot of work, I finally finished it! It took some time, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely got that classic Prada Galleria vibe. This whole process really made me appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these designer bags. And it was a fun challenge, too!
Making this bag was a real labor of love. It was tough, but I learned a lot along the way. I think I’ll be using this bag for a long time.
