Okay, so today I tackled remaking the Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Special Edition Bag, and let me tell you, it was a journey! I’ve always been a huge fan of Prada. I mean, who isn’t? Their stuff is just so classy and timeless. And this Galleria bag? It’s been on my wishlist forever. I saw that celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid were using it. The hashtag #PradaReEdition was also trending, with more than 32 million views. So I thought, why not try to make one myself?
I started by gathering all my materials. Finding the right Saffiano leather was a bit of a pain. It took some searching. I wanted that perfect texture, you know? Not too stiff, but still structured. Finally found a decent substitute after hitting up a few different shops. It’s not exactly the same, but it looks nice.
Then came the cutting. Man, measuring and cutting leather is nerve-wracking! One wrong move and you’ve messed up the whole piece. I used my trusty rotary cutter and a metal ruler, and took it slow. Double-checked, triple-checked every measurement.
- First, I created the main body of the bag.
- Then, I cut out the side panels, the bottom, and the handles.
- The lining was next, and I picked out a smooth, luxurious fabric. It’s not Prada level, but it feels nice to the touch.
Stitching was the most time-consuming part. I don’t have an industrial sewing machine, just my regular home machine. So, I had to go really slow to make sure the stitches were even and strong. The Saffiano leather is pretty thick, so I used a heavy-duty needle. My fingers were definitely sore by the end of it! Stiching the lining was more faster.
The handles were tricky. Getting them to be the right shape and attaching them securely took some trial and error. I ended up hand-stitching them for extra reinforcement. And honestly, it added a nice handmade touch, I think.
Finally, I worked on the hardware. I found some metal pieces that looked similar to the original Prada bag’s hardware. Attaching them was a bit fiddly, but I managed.
The Result
After all that work, I finally finished! It’s not a perfect replica, of course. There are some imperfections here and there. But I’m pretty darn proud of it! It looks surprisingly like the real deal, especially from afar. It’s got that classic Prada vibe. And the best part? I made it myself!
This project definitely taught me a lot about bag making. It’s not easy, but it’s so rewarding to see the finished product. And now I have a pretty sweet “Prada” bag to show off. I might even try to remake another designer bag in the future. We’ll see!
