Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5722 for a while now. It’s a classic watch, and I figured, why not try my hand at it? So, I dove in, starting with finding a good base watch to work with.
First off, I spent a good chunk of time researching. I looked at tons of pictures, read some stuff online about the new model, you know, the 5811/1G, and how they changed it to white gold and all that. It was interesting stuff, but I was more focused on the 5722.
After I felt like I had a good grasp of what I was dealing with, I started hunting for parts. I knew I needed a case that had that unique square shape with the rounded corners. I finally found something that looked right.
- Sourcing the parts: I found the case, which was a big win. Then came the dial. I wanted to get that horizontal embossing just right, so I spent hours comparing different dials.
- Putting it all together: I got all the parts laid out, and then the real work started. Getting the movement to fit into the new case was a pain, but I managed to do it.
- Dealing with issues: Of course, nothing ever goes perfectly. I had some trouble with the hands, they weren’t fitting quite right. So I had to make some adjustments.
- The final touches: After all the fiddling and adjusting, I finally got it all together. I polished the case, made sure everything was running smoothly, and there it was, my very own remade Patek Philippe Nautilus 5722.
It wasn’t easy, I’m not gonna lie. There were times I wanted to just chuck the whole thing out the window. But I stuck with it, and honestly, seeing the finished product made it all worth it. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I’m pretty proud of it.
Would I do it again?
Probably not, haha. It was a lot of work, and my wife wasn’t too happy with all the time I spent on it. But hey, it was a fun experiment, and I learned a lot. Maybe one day I’ll tackle another watch project, but for now, I’m just going to enjoy wearing this one.
