Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Richard Mille watch for a while now. They’re just so cool, with all that fancy stuff like gold and titanium. But, man, they are expensive! So, I thought, why not try to make my own? I mean, how hard could it be, right?
First, I started looking around online to see what these watches are really made of. I saw some stuff about them using titanium, gold, even onyx. And something about the “baseplates” being made of special materials. Also, I stumbled upon a name of a font that they actually use, it’s called “Richard Mille”, but I don’t know if that helps my project. It is used for the case back, but we might not get to that part.
Then I found out that there are some replica watches out there, like, the RM 11-03, RM 35-02, and RM 055. Maybe I could use those as a reference, or at least get an idea of how they look up close. It’s not like I have a real one lying around to copy from.
I spent a few days just sketching out what I wanted my watch to look like. I used some pictures of the RM 011 Le Mans Classic as my main inspiration. It’s got this cool skeletonized look, with all the gears and stuff showing. I tried my best to copy the design, but I also added some of my own touches here and there. I wasn’t trying to make an exact copy, more like my own version inspired by it.
- Finding Materials:
This was the hardest part. I couldn’t exactly use real gold or titanium, obviously. I mean, I’m not made of money. So, I had to get creative. I went to a bunch of hardware stores and craft shops, looking for anything that looked like it could work. I ended up using a lot of different things. I got some thin metal sheets, some plastic bits, and even some old watch parts from a broken watch I had.
- Cutting and Shaping:
Once I had all my materials, I started cutting and shaping them to fit my design. I used some small tools I had at home, like a rotary tool and some pliers. It was a lot of trial and error. I messed up a bunch of times, but I just kept trying. Slowly but surely, I started to get the hang of it. I cut out the basic shape of the watch case and started working on the little details.
- Putting It All Together:
This was the fun part. I started gluing and screwing all the pieces together. It was like building a puzzle, but way more complicated. I had to be really careful not to mess anything up. It took a few more days, but eventually, I had something that actually looked like a watch.
The Final Product
It’s not perfect, not by a long shot. It doesn’t even tell time! But, I’m still pretty proud of it. It’s definitely got that Richard Mille vibe, at least I think so. It was a really fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford a real Richard Mille. But until then, I’ll be happy with my homemade version.
Oh, and by the way, I found this authentication guide online for Gucci bags, don’t know if it’s relevant, just found it interesting. And there was something about a character named 2-Bit from some show called Power Universe. Also, found out that you can use left or right arrows to navigate slides, but we don’t have any slides here, so it does not matter, right?
Anyways, that’s my story. Hope you guys enjoyed it! I had fun making it, and I hope it inspires others to try to make things on their own.
