Patek Philippe Nautilus 5724 Remake: Buy from the Official Flagship Store, Dont Risk It!

Okay, so, I’ve always been into fancy watches, especially Patek Philippe. You know, the ones that are like, way out of most people’s price range? Yeah, those. Anyway, I saw this Nautilus 5724 at the official store, and it was love at first sight. But, obviously, I couldn’t just drop that kind of cash. So I thought, why not try to remake it myself?

First off, I started with a ton of research. I mean, I scoured the internet for every picture and detail I could find about the 5724. It took a good while to get all the details. I wanted it to be as close to the original as possible, you know? I even checked out some watch forums where people were talking about the different versions of the Nautilus and some online stores that sell the authentic one. It’s crazy how much info is out there if you know where to look.

Next up, I needed to find a watch that I could use as a base. Something with a similar shape and feel to the Nautilus. I ended up getting a pretty decent-looking watch that had the right kind of vibe. It wasn’t a Patek, of course, but it was good enough to start with.

Now came the hard part, making the actual changes. I got some tools from my local hardware store, nothing too fancy, just some basic stuff to take the watch apart and put it back together. I also printed out a bunch of high-res photos of the 5724 to use as a guide. I started by replacing the dial. I found a seller online who makes custom watch dials, and I ordered one that looked pretty darn close to the real thing. Swapping out the dial was tricky, but I managed to do it without messing anything up too badly.

Then came the hands. The 5724 has these really distinctive hands, and I wanted to get them just right. I found a set of hands that were a decent match, although they weren’t perfect. They were similar enough that you wouldn’t notice unless you were really looking for it. Putting them on was a delicate operation, but I got it done. I felt like a real watchmaker for a minute there!

The bezel was the biggest challenge. The 5724 has this beautiful bezel with diamonds, and replicating that was a tall order. I ended up finding some small, sparkly stones at a craft store. I carefully attached them to the bezel of my base watch, one by one. It took forever, and I almost gave up a few times, but I finally got it done. It wasn’t diamonds, obviously, but it had that same kind of shine.

The Final Touches

  • Strap: I kept the original strap that came with the base watch. It was a good quality leather strap, and it looked just fine with the rest of the watch.
  • Case: I didn’t make any changes to the case, it was not the rose gold one, but it was already pretty similar in shape and size to the 5724.
  • Movement: Obviously, I couldn’t do anything about the movement. It’s a regular quartz movement, not a fancy Patek Philippe one.

After weeks of work, I finally had my own “Patek Philippe Nautilus 5724”. It wasn’t perfect, and it definitely wasn’t the real thing, but I was pretty proud of it. It looked surprisingly good, and I learned a ton about watches in the process. Plus, I saved myself a ton of money. I mean, a real 5724 can cost like, what, more than a lot of cars? And they say you might have to wait 5 to 8 years to even get one. My version cost me a couple hundred bucks and a few weekends of my time. I’d say that’s a pretty good deal.

So yeah, that’s my little watchmaking adventure. It was fun, it was challenging, and it was totally worth it. Maybe I’ll try to remake another watch sometime. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even get good enough to start selling them. Wouldn’t that be something?
