Okay, guys, let’s talk about my latest project – remaking the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Yeah, you heard that right. It’s a pretty ambitious project. But I wanted to give it a shot.
I started by getting my hands on every bit of info I could find about this watch. You know, digging through forums, reading articles, whatever I could find. The Gondolo Serata, that’s what they call it, it’s a real looker. Art Deco style, rectangular shape, the whole nine yards.
Then, I got to work figuring out the dimensions. I mean, this is important stuff if you want a proper remake. The original is 28.6 x 40.85 mm, and it’s about 7.36 mm thick. It’s supposed to be water-resistant up to 30 meters, but honestly, I’m not planning on swimming with it.
The next thing was the materials. I spent a good chunk of time hunting down the right stuff. You don’t want to go cheap, you know? It’s got to look and feel right. The original is all fancy with its gold and whatnot.
- First, I focused on the case. I needed to find something that matched that elegant, curved shape.
- Then there’s the dial. That’s a whole other beast. It’s got this unique pattern that I had to get right.
- And of course, the strap. Leather, of course, but it had to be just the right kind. I went through so many samples it’s not even funny.
After I gathered all the materials, it was time to put it all together. This is where things got tricky. I’m no watchmaker, but I tried my best. I used every tool I had and followed the original design as closely as I could.
Let me tell you, it was a real challenge. There were times I thought I’d messed it up completely. But I kept at it. I took my time, double-checked everything, and slowly but surely, it started to come together.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I finished it. It’s not perfect, but it’s my version of the Gondolo 4962/200R-001. It was a great learning experience. I learned a ton about watches, about materials, and about my own patience.
