Man, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Nautilus for the longest time. Those things are slick! But, you know, the price tag? Forget about it! So, I thought, why not try to make my own? I’m talking about the 5719/10, the one with all the bling. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but stick with me here.
First things first, I needed a base watch. Something with that classic Nautilus look, you know, that octagon-ish bezel and the horizontal lines on the dial. Found a decent one online. Not a real Patek, obviously, but it had the right vibe. Stainless steel, 40mm case – pretty close to the real deal.
Then came the fun part – the diamonds!
- Now, I’m not exactly swimming in cash, so I used some fake diamonds. But they still sparkle.
- I had to take the whole watch apart. This was tricky, let me tell you. Those tiny screws are a pain!
- I put the diamonds everywhere. The bezel, the bracelet, even the dial!
The dial was the hardest part. The original 5719/10 has this crazy diamond-set dial, and I wanted to copy that. I used a ton of tiny diamonds and glued each one by hand. Took forever, but it is looking good.
Putting it all back together was another adventure. I nearly lost a couple of screws and almost messed up the movement. But after a lot of cursing and sweating, I did it!
The Result
Okay, so it’s not a genuine Patek Philippe. But it looks pretty awesome! It’s got the weight, the shine, and that unmistakable Nautilus shape. I’ve been wearing it around, and people are definitely noticing. A few have even asked if it’s real! I just laugh and say, “It’s real to me!”
This whole project was a blast. It was challenging, frustrating at times, but totally worth it. I learned a lot about watches, and I ended up with a unique piece that I’m really proud of. It’s a reminder that sometimes, you gotta take matters into your own hands and make your own kind of luxury.
